Do you love to be creative, but want to take your creativity to a whole new level? Do you feel overwhelmed by your work and find that your natural creative abilities and talents are untapped? If so, you need to learn how to tap into your creativity whenever you want or need to. When you allow creative thinking to flow, you will find that you can enhance your natural abilities, up your productivity to unheard-of levels, and accomplish more in less time.

Creative Thinking Begets Creativity
Creativity allows you to become who you want to be. If you cannot release your creativity, you may feel your professional growth stunted, or you may not be able to think as clearly as you would like to. Many of people don’t realize the importance of creativity until they are taught to tap into it through creative thinking.

Are you wondering how you can get started with creative thinking? You can begin with simple exercises like going through magazines and cutting out random images. You then can glue them all to a paper or a board without thinking about it – just let your creative juices flow! Finally, step back and see what your mind has created. You may be impressed and surprised with yourself. This surely will help you tap into your creative energy.

Listen to Something New
Another way to jump-start your creative thinking is by listening to music. Put on an album that you are unfamiliar with or borrow a friend’s CD. When you listen to something that you have never experienced before, you may find that you are changing your definitions of creativity and are lighting your creative fire at the same time.

Get Creative By Getting Your Groove On
Dance! Creative thinking often starts with an active body. Put on a CD or go out to a jazz club. Try a dance class, or enjoy the movement of your body in your own living room. Whatever it is, do something to get up and get going! You will be surprised at how creative you’ll feel afterwards. You may feel inspired and ready to tackle new and exciting projects. Or perhaps you’ll find that your workload isn’t as daunting as it first appeared. After all, you’ll be relaxing while having fun!

Write Your Heart Out
Another option is to set your timer for 15 minutes. From the minute you press start, you should write freely. Write whatever comes to mind without thinking about it or planning. Then step back and see the creativity that flowed from your mind to your hand, and then to your pen and onto the paper.

Yet another awesome way to boost creative thinking is through affirmations. These positive statements can help you remember what it is to be creative and how wondrous it feels when creativity flows through you. You can create a list of affirmations for yourself such as, “I feel an intense flame of passion for things that interest me,” that can help you tap into the creative person that you are, even as you deal with everyday stresses.

Getting the motivation to do something – whether it’s a trip to the kitchen or to pursue your dream career – seems easy enough, but few can sustain the motivation to follow-through consistently and maintain a consistently high level of productivity.

The task is too big. Right? You’ll be glad to discover that you can stop that vicious cycle of inaction and regret and become the self-motivated person you always wanted to be!

Here are some excellent tips on how to motivate yourself, even when you’ve hit a setback, are in a slump, or haven’t even begun to figure out what you want from life:

1. Focus. Focus on just one goal at a time. Even if you’re working toward improving several areas of your life, focus on each goal separately. Flush out everything else from your mind, and keep your energies focused on the one goal. Develop a tunnel vision focus to tune out unimportant tasks and distractions.

2. Envision results. Remembering why you’re inspired in the first place will refresh your motivation towards attaining your goal. Think of how your life will be changed and improved once you achieve this goal.

3. Start small. Determine the tasks necessary to reach your goal. Now divide these tasks into a series of smaller tasks. Continue this process until you’ve obtained tasks that you know you can accomplish. It’s like bite-size chunks. When the chunks are small enough, you know you won’t be biting off more than you can chew at one time! Attaining many small goals on your way to the big goal keeps you happy and motivated with constant successes.

4. Network. Talk to friends, coworkers, and experts in the area you seek to master. Get them to share tips, advice and experiences they’ve had that can help you to reach your goal. Surrounding yourself with people who have the same goals – or have already attained them – will inspire you to act.

5. Tell people about your goals. By telling people about your goal, you are making a pact that you will follow-through. Tell your friends, family and coworkers to energize your motivation.

6. Dedicate daily time. Dedicate a certain amount of time each day specifically to furthering this goal. Investing time in attaining your goal every day will keep it in your mind as positive action. Positive action propels success and diminishes doubts and regret.

7. Research. Research industry or topic books, blogs and forums. 8. Reward yourself. When you accomplish a step or a positive outcome in your goal plan, reward yourself with a nice dinner or something that will make you feel special.

9. Learn from your mistakes. Recognize that you will make mistakes and accept this.

10. Replace negativity with positive thoughts and actions. We all encounter those negative thoughts that tell us to give up, but knowing how to counteract them will keep you on track toward your goal. Your mindset and attitude determine the positive or negative outcome of any situation. Keep those positive thoughts and actions coming and success will surely follow. Negativity is not reality unless you make it so.

By using this combination of tips and techniques, you can motivate yourself to take action toward your goals. You’ll be proud of yourself for doing something positive to make your life better.

No matter what our occupation, we all come in contact with negative, difficult people from time to time. Our primal instinct is to fight back, defend ourselves, and react to their negativity with some of our own. However, we are not animals who are led by instincts. We are human beings with the ability to control our responses. To fight anger with anger merely depletes our own energy and brings us down to the same level.

Why are people difficult?

When people act negatively, it’s a reflection of what’s going on inside them. Our ego then responds by thinking, “I have to be right. If I don’t respond, I’m conceding defeat.” Then we find ourselves engaged in a conflict that hurts us emotionally, mentally, and maybe even physically.

Ways to Deal with Difficult People
Here are some ways to deal with these difficult people. They may not all be easy (heck, none of them are easy!), but they will give you some peace of mind that you’re doing the right thing.

1. Wait before responding. Our first instinct is to immediately react and retaliate. However, reacting to another individual’s negativity usually only eggs them on. You may even realize that a response is not even needed. Maybe the other person was merely venting and needs to simply be ignored because the attack was not personal at all. If you spend some time cooling off before you respond, you can gain perspective on the situation. If necessary, remove yourself from the room when confronted with a difficult person. Go for a walk outside or walk up a flight of stairs to vent your frustrations.

2. Stop rehashing the situation. This is especially a problem in office situations where gossip spreads like wildfire. Drop the subject and move on. The longer you dwell on the situation and talk about it with others, the more negative and angry you’ll become. Take the high road and step away from those who are gossiping or speak up and tell others you don’t want to listen to it.

3. Express your feelings. If you simply need to get your emotions off your chest, try writing a letter. Vent all your thoughts, feelings, and hurt onto the piece of paper. Then crumple up the paper and throw it away. As you do, imagine your negative feelings being thrown away with it.

What’s going on in the negative person’s life right now? Maybe he’s having family issues or a health crisis.Try to look at the situation as an objective observer detached from the situation. This can help give you some compassion for the difficult person in your workplace. Consider the difficulties this other person might be facing in life and think about how you would handle a similar situation.

5. Respond positively. Remember the phrase, “Kill ‘em with kindness”? Very often responding calmly and with a friendly tone will diffuse a difficult situation.

Negative people are everywhere. Don’t let them take your happiness away or affect your mood. Teach these difficult people by leading a good example, by responding calmly, and by showing kindness. As a result, you’ll bring more happiness to others and find that you feel a greater happiness yourself.

Whether you’re looking to manage a team or create better relationships between your staff or team members, communication is something you have to give a lot of attention to. Make sure everyone communicates openly.

Open communication is exactly what it sounds like: tackling an issue head on and openly discussing ways to resolve it. Nothing is accomplished by letting an issue fester because neither party wants to discuss it.

You’d be surprised how many conflicts can be resolved simply by sitting down with someone and engaging in some open and friendly communication. The discussion shouldn’t be accusatory, threatening, or argumentative, rather, it should be an opportunity for all people involved to calmly voice their opinions and be heard.

Tips for Resolving Conflicts
A face-to-face confrontation may not always be best. For instance, some people are most comfortable talking on the phone or chatting online. Whichever method makes you feel most comfortable is how you should approach the conflict, so long as you are able to openly voice your concerns. Just remember to focus on the problem and not the person.

Consider adopting an open door policy. You’ll be able to effectively communicate with others if you show them that you’re willing to engage with them at any time. This is an important conflict resolution strategy because it will give you a lot more face-to-face time with them in general. The more you foster an open door policy, the fewer conflicts you will have.

When mediating a conflict, remember that you need to be firm and fair. Listen to all sides and give each person a chance to speak uninterrupted.

If you want your team to hear and respect your opinions, then treat everyone with the same level of respect.

Being Patient with People
Change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s entirely possible that some people involved in the discussion will leave with hurt feelings. So long as everyone involved was treated respectfully and the issue is out in the open, you can now begin working toward a satisfactory resolution as a team.

The more frequently you try to resolve conflicts intelligently, the easier it will become. Rather than stepping around a sore subject, it will become second nature to have an open discussion and find a resolution. It’s worth the effort to take some time and really consider what you can bring to the table when it comes to open communication and conflict resolution.

Do you dread getting out of bed every day to go to work because your work environment is too stressful? And are you unable to maintain your level of productivity at work when the stress level starts rising?

Many people find that it’s not so much their job that causes them stress; rather, the people and the environment are what stresses them out. You may find that the people you work with are intolerable or that the setup of your work place is simply not conducive to getting things done efficiently.

Dealing with stressful work environments is something many of us have to face every day, but you don’t have to let it get you down. Instead, by learning how to deal with your stress at work you’ll be able to boost your energy and reduce frustration.

1. Create a space conducive to concentration. If your office is open-concept, you may find the hustle and bustle around you to be distracting. Also, try putting up a privacy screen (if possible), or rearrange your furniture or computer screen to create a barrier of sorts between you and the rest of the office.

2. Use positive imagery when you feel stress coming on. Many people find that they can control stress by allowing themselves to go to a peaceful place for just a couple of moments.

3. Create a daily to-do list. Many times when we are stressed out, it’s because we are trying to juggle too many things without saying no from time to time. This causes our stress levels to rise quickly and uncontrollably.

4. Learn how to meditate. Meditation is a form of deep concentration that can help you restore peace and balance in your life. You can make prayer or meditation a part of your every day life so when stress levels are rising, you can regain your composure nearly effortlessly. As you practice your meditation techniques, you’ll be able to do it without anyone even noticing, and you’ll bring a calmer and more focused energy to the office.

5. Move around within the company or find a better fit elsewhere. Many people simply cannot overcome the stressful environment in which they work. Besides, no one should work in a situation where they always feel on edge! If you have a job that is too demanding or rarely allows for you to tend to your personal life, then it may be time to find a better fit. Getting a new job can be stressful in itself, but when you find something that is right for you, you’ll notice the old way of stressful living will melt away and you’ll be left with a happier, healthier, and more peaceful life.

Workplace stress is at an all-time high, but in many cases, you’ll be able to overcome this stress using the workplace stress tips mentioned above. If the work environment becomes too stressful and toxic to deal with, you’ll want to take action. After all, you must put yourself first if prolonged and unmanaged stress becomes destructive to your body and mind.

We’ve written about the importance of having a good neat office space before, but this time we decided to focus on clutter itself as, in and of itself it is a major productivity killer.

If you don’t make time to organize your workspace, your office can accumulate clutter extremely quickly. This wouldn’t be an issue if clutter would help you become more productive, but you know all too well that clutter does nothing of the sort.

Don’t wait until clutter takes over your workspace. Fight back with some clutter-zapping organizational tips!

1. A clutter-free office starts with the desire to get rid of the clutter. Every morning make it a goal to put away (or get rid of) ten things that are not in the right place. You’ll notice a huge difference on a day-to-day basis. If you’re rather more motivated than usual, you can try putting away or eliminating 20 or more pieces of clutter. Think of how many pieces of clutter you could eliminate if you spent half an hour dealing with the problem!

2. A related solution is to come up with a filing system for papers. Paper is often the worst clutter culprit, and if you come up with a way to deal with all of the paperwork, you’ll find your office to be much easier and more pleasant to work in. This is often as simple as having “in”, “out”, and “to be filed” boxes. Getting the paperwork off the desk will change the whole look and feel of your space.

3. Empty your garbage bins at least once a day. Make sure that you have adequate-sized wastebaskets. If you don’t, you will find trash all over the place.

4. Make sure that your computer is clutter-free, too. It’s easy to store everything on your computer, but it still counts as clutter, even though it’s virtual. Remove any unused icons from your desktop, empty your recycle bin, and make sure you check for viruses and spyware to ensure your computer is running smoothly. Having virtual clutter on your computer will slow you down and distract you just as much as having “real” clutter in your office.

5. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, develop processes, procedures and systems to manage clutter and prevent it from becoming a problem. All the things money can buy will be useless if people don’t do all they can to put important things in their proper place and dispose of refuse properly.

A clutter-free office really is a more productive office. It may take some time and effort to get rid of the clutter (and perhaps longer to put systems and practices in place to make sure it stays that way), but the time and energy and expense you invest in it will be well worth it because you’ll feel better, find things faster, and get a whole lot more done in less time.

Whether you work for a small company or a large one, whether you are in management or an entry-level position, gaining the respect of your coworkers is a smart career move. In today’s competitive job market, whether you are looking ahead and planning a career path or are already in a position of leadership, it is essential to have the respect of your co-workers.

These tips will help you gain more respect at work:

1. Take responsibility for your actions. No matter what happens, take responsibility for your actions – both good and bad. If you feel that your actions resulted in negative consequences for someone, always make amend and ask if you can help repair the situation.

2. Avoid taking things out on coworkers. One of the traits of well-respected people is the ability to control their emotions and attitudes. As you go through your workday, there will be situations that annoy and frustrate you. Make sure you don’t vent your frustrations on people who don’t deserve it. Treating people fairly reflects well on you. If you have a problem with a coworker, address the problem in a private area or office. Avoid humiliating a coworker in front of others.

3. Remain calm. The truth is you’ll get bad news from time to time at work. Shouting and losing your cool are the worst things you can do. Instead, remain calm and gather all the information you need to handle the situation in a composed manner. Once the news has sunk in, then take the steps needed to get the matter resolved.

4. Give quality information. When you want to advance your career, resist the urge to listen to office gossip. There’s a lot to be said for an office environment that has an open door policy, but that same policy may also make it difficult to discern correct information from false. Don’t relay gossip. Only pass on information if you know the information is reliable, truthful and necessary for someone else to know about. And avoid talking about coworkers’ personal lives, especially if you’ve been told information in confidence.

5. Give credit where credit is due. Take the time to speak well of them to others. Aside from making people feel good about themselves, you’ll soon realize that speaking highly of others will also work wonders for bringing respect to you, too! Giving credit to your coworkers is honest, fair and it gains you respect. This quality is one of the attributes shared by great leaders.

At the end of the day, the most important way to gain respect in the workplace is to respect those you work with. Treat everyone with courtesy. Don’t talk down to anyone or act condescending towards their thoughts or opinions. It all comes back to the golden rule: If you treat others the way you would like to be treated, then they will treat you the same way.

Getting organized can help you save a ton of cash – being messy can cost you money! – and if you do so, you’ll end up with a bit more money you can invest in your company to improve its productivity or for some other worthy purpose, or which you can simply leave in the bank for future use.

Good organization is the keystone to making and saving money and if you want to do either, you’ll find that you can easily make some progress by organizing your life. Here are a few tips on how you can do so.

Schedule Your Bills
The first expenses you have to worry about each month are your household bills like the rent or mortgage and utilities. Use a calendar, planner, computer program, or online banking account to schedule when your bills need to be paid. Any delay can cost you substantial late fees and finance charges. If you set up electronic banking, make sure you understand exactly how the system works. Some programs will not allow you to make a payment on weekends or holidays while others may need a few days to process the payment.

Pay your taxes on time or early. Penalties as well as late charges are added if you don’t file the proper extensions. Hire an accountant to help with your preparation, especially if you work independently.

Organize Your Paperwork
All of your paperwork should be organized so you know exactly where your receipts, financial statements, and bills are filed. There’s nothing worse than going in search of a needle in a haystack when a question arises. A wastebasket by your desk is essential, as is a shredder to prevent identity theft.

Utilize file folders or a portable file container instead of having piles of papers on your desk or countertops. This will prevent you from losing important pieces of paperwork under a landslide of unimportant junk.

Consult with a Financial Adviser
Whether you have a substantial investment portfolio or just want to get started, consult with an expert who can help you reach your financial goals. By organizing your finances, you’ll not only save money, but make it too!

If your current investments aren’t performing well, an advisor can help you move the money around to better performing funds that earn a higher yield or give you greater dividends. If you don’t have any investments, an expert can listen to your financial goals and recommend an investment plan for achieving those goals. Every little bit helps!

Consolidate Your Debts
Get in control of your money by consolidating large debts with one loan. Research which banks or credit cards will give you the lowest interest rates and consolidate your payments into one. This will save you money by paying fewer interest fees, but you must also limit your spending until the debts are paid off. Ask a mortgage broker about refinancing your home or taking out a home equity loan to consolidate debts.

Be in control of your money and your life by evaluating your accounts regularly and staying organized. A little bit of work each day and regularly monitoring your progress will help you reach your financial goals.

It may be true that some people are born leaders. There’s something about them that makes people want to follow them – their charm or charisma – but anyone can learn how to be an effective leader!

Whether you’re a natural born leader or not, there are a number of behaviors you can practice and use to become a leader that will make people want to listen to you, respect you, and like you.

We all need leaders to guide, inspire, and encourage us. A good leader can leave us feeling inspired and uplifted. But how can you become a positive leader?

Simply put, leaders help their employees feel good about themselves. Leaders ensure that staff feel appreciated for the hard work they do day in and day out.

Leaders also need to communicate effectively with others. Let others know that they can freely voice their opinions and ideas to you. If you actively listen to each and every person, they’ll all feel like valuable players on your team.

Be professional, but be personable. When you’re introducing employees to visitors or senior managers, always introduce them by their first name. Refer to them as your team members, colleagues, or associates. Never, ever refer to them as your subordinates or by their job titles.

Leadership also involves being a positive role model. Good leaders do more then talk the talk; they actually walk the walk. By setting a good example and understanding the needs and pressures of the team, a leader can help others see the big picture and help them understand why their roles are so important to the team’s success.

Good leaders roll up their sleeves and get down to business with the people that are working for them. They fight for the rights of their team at all levels. If you show your team how much you respect their needs, you’ll gain their respect, too. For example, if a pay raise is stalled, actively investigate why it’s stalled and keep your team updated.

To be a good leader you also need to understand that different people are motivated in different ways. People naturally like to see a positive outcome for the work they do and the key is to find out what motivates the people you work with. Is the motivation to get a pay increase? Is it recognition for a job well done? Or is it being named employee of the month? Motivation can be very individualized. Even if you own a small business and can’t afford expensive employee rewards, sometimes a nice dinner or a thoughtful gift is enough to show your employees your appreciation.

Lastly, good leaders know that each person is essential to the success of the team as a whole. Don’t take the people working for you for granted. Remember that getting the respect you desire first starts with respecting others.

Do you wake up each day feeling great, but soon after you enter the office you feel your inspiration and motivation fleeing – which reduces your productivity immensely? If so, there are some inspiring workplace ideas that you can put to work for you so you feel more inspired when you work. After all, it doesn’t matter how good you are at your job if you don’t feel passionate about what you do.

Simple Ideas to Infuse Your Workplace with Inspiration
One of the best ways to infuse your workplace with inspiration is to make sure it is comfortable. You need to make sure your chair supports your back correctly, your desk is at the right height, and you have an ergonomically correct keyboard and mouse. Repetitive strain injuries are on the rise, so speak up and you just might find your employer willing to cooperate. Worst case: bring in your own office supplies or equipment. There’s no reason that your body has to suffer if your boss is stingy!

De-Clutter Your Workspace
You will often find inspiration by getting rid of the clutter on your desk or on your computer. A cluttered workspace can zap you of your creativity because you spend more time trying to find things than getting things done.

Look at your workspace objectively and ask yourself: “What absolutely needs to be on my desk?” Remove the things that make you feel claustrophobic and toss the things you never use. Everything else must be filed away in an organizational system that works for you.

The bottom line: only keep the things that you need in the space. Keeping anything else adds nothing more than clutter and distraction. Clutter zaps your motivation, so avoid it! Once you do, you’ll think clearer and feel far more relaxed.

Creating an Inspirational Computing Experience
The other place you likely spend the most time is on your computer. Making sure you have a clutter-free desktop will really help to clear your mind from unnecessary frustrations and distractions. Once you do this, a great ways to bring inspiration into your workspace is through inspirational wallpapers. Inspirational wallpapers are typically free downloads that inspire you during those long 8-hour workdays. After all, it can be hard to stay focused staring at your screen all day!

When you are having a hard time getting started, getting motivated, or just finding the inspiration to push forward, you can look at your desktop and you’ll find all the inspirational energy you need. Inspirational wallpapers typically contain beautiful landscapes with inspirational quotes or sayings. Sometimes all you need to get going is a gentle push in the right direction, and inspirational wallpapers just might be what you need. It’s really that simple!

The great thing about these wallpapers is that they don’t take up any physical space, so there’s no need to worry about clutter. You also can use some of the images and quotes on the wallpaper to create screensavers for your computer. Your computer has the potential to inspire you in so many ways!

Inspiration can often seem impossible to find at work, but you may need to think outside of the box and find ways to get inspired. Keep things simple and don’t let clutter get you down.
